Our First IBAA Convention: New Connections, Good People, and One Unforgettable Moose Milk

Earlier this month, we made the drive out to Banff, where we joined hundreds of insurance brokers, adjusters, and industry partners at the Fairmont Banff Springs to celebrate 100 years of the Insurance Brokers Association of Alberta. As first-time attendees, we honestly weren't sure what to expect. What we found was something genuinely special.

The event was well organized from start to finish. The sessions were thoughtful, and the programming was relevant, especially for a restoration company that works closely with adjusters and insurers on claims every single day. But what stood out most wasn't any one speaker or panel. It was the energy in the room.

"Reconnecting with familiar faces while building new relationships made the experience even more valuable."

Restoration and insurance go hand in hand. When a Calgary homeowner calls after a flooded basement or a commercial building suffers fire damage, the restoration company and the insurance company often work together to get that client through one of the hardest situations they'll face. Being in the same room as the people on the other side of that, sharing meals, talking through challenges, and hearing where the industry is heading, that's time well spent.

We want to extend a genuine thank you to the event sponsors who made the event so memorable:

- Sandbox Mutual Insurance

- Peace Hills Insurance

- Wawanesa Insurance

- SGI Canada

And a special thank you to Crawford & Company and Kelly Albert, who introduced Mike to his very first Moose Milk experience. If you know, you know. If you don't, come to the conference next year and find out for yourself.

In all seriousness, moments like that are what make industry conferences worth going to. Behind every insurance file is a real person dealing with a real problem. And behind every claim is a network of professionals who, when they know and trust each other, do better work for that person. That's the kind of culture IBAA has been building for a century, and it shows.

At Red Dot, our entire approach is built on the same idea: be the company people trust when it actually matters.

The IBAA convention reminded us why showing up matters. Not just at emergency scenes at 2 AM, but also in conference halls and hospitality events where real relationships are built. As a company with roots in this community, being part of the Alberta insurance industry isn't just good for business. It's the right way to operate.

We're already looking forward to next year's convention and to continuing the conversations and partnerships that started over those three days in Banff. If you were there and we didn't get a chance to connect, we'd love to hear from you.

And to the entire IBAA community: thank you for 100 years of building something that genuinely serves Albertans. Here's to the next 100.
